The Isle of Wight’s First and Only BJJ & MMA Academy!
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art which first came into popularity after the first Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). This is where martial artists, representing their own style were pitted against each other in no holds barred competition to see which style would reign supreme.
The competition was dominated and won by a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu expert named Royce Gracie. Royce, who was the smallest contestant in the UFC won the championship beating all opponents; bigger and stronger utilising the movements of BJJ which rely on leverage, technique and knowledge of human anatomy. Isle of Wight BJJ welcomes people of different ranges of ability. We are a non political martial arts club who welcome all other martial artists regardless of style or experience.

Stuart Rickman Seminar “Judo for BJJ” – 31st March 2012

On Saturday 31st March Club members participated in the “Judo for BJJ” seminar taught by Stuart Rickman.

Stuart who is current welter weight Shock & Awe MMA champion is also a BJJ purple belt and Judo Black belt with a life time of experience in the art.

Stuart taught us high percentage throws trips and sweeps which would be effective in a BJJ competition without leaving the person attacking in a vulnerable position.

After the seminar students also participated in a 3 hour open mat to get some extra time on the mat. It was an excellent day for all involved. (Read More)
